地名是歷史的產物，是國家領土主權的象征，是日常生活的向導，是社會交往的媒介。在信息化社會中，地名在國際政治、經濟、外交、外貿、科技、文化交流、新聞出版以及社會生活方面都起著非常重要的作用。

Abstract
The name of a place is the result of the history, is the guide of ourdayly life, is the media of social communication. In this modern world, the name of a place plays a very important part in internationnal politics, economics, foreign trade, science, cultrual communication, news public and other social life.

引言
用漢語拼音字母拼寫中國地名，不僅是中國的統1標準，而且是國際標準，全世界都要遵照使用。根據筆者英譯中國地名的體會，本文擬談談中國地名英譯的幾點注意事項，供譯者和讀者參考。
