經典英語口語 2
1. Take the one-way street.
走這條單行道。
One-way street就是單行道。尤其在Downtown地區，以亞特蘭大和紐奧良為例，其復雜的程度可以用進的去，出不來來形容，實在不是個愉快的開車經驗。
2. You will stay on the street for a while until you hit the first traffic light.
你會走一會兒，直到你遇到第一個紅綠燈。
Stay for a while 通常指五到十分鐘的時間，不會太久。遇見某樣東西，可以用hit 這個字，如hit the traffic light, hit the stop sign 等等。而traffic light 也有人說成light，或stoplight。
3. Then take a left.
向左轉。
向左轉可以說成turn left，take a left 或是Make a left。有時光講take a left 不明確，你可以加上路名，明確地告訴人家要轉哪一條路，例如Take a left into Hemphill Ave。或是Take a left onto Hemphill Ave。
4. It will be Hemphill Ave. It’s two-lane traffic.
那就會是Hemphill Ave，它是一條雙線道。
指路的時候如果能夠說出街道名稱是最好，所以通常我會把轉到哪一條路的路名也指出來。至于是幾線道一般指路的時候則比較不會提及。雙線道是指來去各一個車道共二線道而言，四線道就是four-lane traffic。像亞特蘭大的Interstate Highway 有些地方都是十二線道，那就是twelve-lane traffic 夠驚人吧。
5. Come down Hemphill Ave about five blocks.
由Hemphill 街往下走約五個街區。
英文這個部份跟中文有異曲同工之妙，我們會習慣地說，往"下" 走，英文也會說come "down" 或是get "down"，這里如果只說Come Hemphill Ave聽來是不是怪怪的？至于block 指的是一塊一塊的建筑，外國人在指路時很喜歡用block 作為計量的單位。
6. You will see a BP gas station on your left.
在你的左手邊你會看到一座BP加油站。
指路的.時候除了路名之外，明顯的地標也是有幫助的。通常你可以指出一些明顯的建筑物或是加油站來幫助對方。加油站的英文是gas station，有時會簡稱station。
7. Keep going 50 yards before you come to a fork road.
繼續走50碼，直到你走到一個三叉路口。
繼續往下走可以用keep going這個字，或是continue straight 或是keep straight也很常用。Fork road就是我們說的三叉路口。那如果是丁字路口要怎么說？你可以說，This road will dead end into 10th Street. 就可以表達出丁字路口的意思了。
8. Make a right, pass two stop signs and you will run into a Wal Mart.
向右轉，經過兩個Stop sign，你就會遇到Wal Mart。
老美喜歡說You’ll run into it! 意思就是，你會遇到的。You can’t miss it! 就是說，你絕不會錯過的。
9. The post office is just right across the street of it.
郵局就在Wal Mart的正對面。
Right across the street of it 是個很重要的短語，加上"right" across 表示出"正" 對面的意思。還有一個很常用的就是在什么什么的旁邊，這個要用The office is next to it. It 代表之前已經提過的Wal Mart，如果之前沒有提及，這里也可以直接說說成，across the street of Wal Mart。
10. Mr. Yang’s house is behind the post office.
