With the rapid development of modernization, television becomes a necessity in every house. Recently, a research shows that 95% of children form the habit of watching TV for long hours every day, which makes teachers and parents panic, because watching TV for long hours may have very negative effects on the children.
The bad influence of watching TV for long hours covers the following points. First of all, there are a lot of illegal programs which may lead the children to the wrong way or form the wrong values. Secondly, with plenty of series to choose from, children become less interested in taking exercises. TV has kept children indoor while they should spend time playing outside. Thirdly, the excessive watching TV can lower the children’s ability to study.
Undoubtedly, it is high time that parents should help the children to deal with the relation with the TV. Also, children ought to do some creative things like reading, singing, painting, and running instead of sitting in front of the TV all day long.
隨著現代化的快速發展，電視成了每家每戶的必需品。最近，一項研究表明95%的孩子形成了每天長時間看電視的'習慣，這使老師和家長都很心慌，因為長時間看電視可能會對孩子產生負面影響。
看電視的時間長，影響包括以下幾點。首先，有很多非法的節目可能會引導孩子走向歧途或者形成錯誤的價值觀。其次，有太多的電視劇來選擇，兒童成為鍛煉不感興趣。電視一直保持室內兒童當他們應該花時間在外面玩。第三，過度看電視會降低孩子的學習能力。
毫無疑問，父母是時候應該幫助孩子處理好與電視的關系了。同時，孩子們也應該做一些有創意的事情，像閱讀，唱歌，繪畫，而不是整天坐在電視機前。

Television Program and Their Effect on children
Television programs regularly entertain, educate, effect and even frighten the majority of our children. Most children are allowed to watch whatever program is on, with little thought on the effect that particular show will have on a child. Most programs can be classed as beneficial or harmful, according to what effect the program might have on a child.
The beneficial television programs are mainly thouse that educate the young. There are often specials on animal life. A few regular children’s programs develop the child’s interest in school-type learning by stressing numbers and the alphablt, and that encourages him or her to be creative. The beneficial commercials, such as those on anti-smoking, anti-litter, and health, should be included in this category.
On the opposite side are the shows, which are generally harmful to children. Many commercials, especially those sponsoring the chiildren’s programs, are deliberately written to create a desire for an unnecessary product such as sugar coated cereals and candy. All adult programs that include violence or sex scenes can at best fill a child’s mind with confusing or misleading ideas, and could possib ly harden the child to violence.
Thoughtful parents will definitely not allow their children to view the bad programs. A child’s viewing time should be limited to watching educationlly benefical programs.

TV is an essential part of leisure activities in most families. However, some parents decide not to have a TV set in their homes, in order that their children will devote enough time to invention and creation.
Do you agree or disagree with this attitude?
The invention of television, one of the products of modern civilization, has made an enormous change in the lifestyle of human beings. TV has been playing more and more important role in most families after work. Yet, as to whether it is a blessing or a curse, parents often hold widely different opinions and take totally different attitudes.
There is suspicion in some parents minds that TV might retard their childrens creative ability or restrain kids imagination because TV viewers tend to receive information in a passive way instead of discovering things by themselves. Although people working in the TV industry have made lots of efforts to produce various programs, the outcome is usually unsatisfactory: either the program is too profound to be understood or the topic is not interesting enough to attract TV audiences. Thus, watching TV is hardly a good way to inspire childrens creativity. In many cases, it can draw attention away from their studies and spoil their school education.

Watching TV has always been an important part of after school life for children, and some of them even become TV addicts. Therefore some people advocate ‘no TV for children'. Of course this is understandable. Firstly, children sitting too much time in front of a screen tend to have poor eyesight and weak body due to lack of physical exercise. They can also be lost in the virtual world and be insensitive to people around them, including their parents, and this is detrimental to their family relationship and their emotional development. Another concern is about their mental development which needs various types of interactive activities, but obviously excessive TV viewing cannot meet such requirement. The worst part can be some programs which are not proper for children to watch. Too many advertisements and news focusing on emergency and disasters on the screen are also a disadvantageous point for immature people who are prone to be influenced negatively. However watching TV in moderation with proper parental supervision can be good for children. There are plenty of educational programs which can expand children's knowledge and spark their interesting exploring the world where they may not have the opportunity to visit in real life, such as the nature and wild life. TV is not only an educational source, but is also a recreational activity. It can help enrich their after class activities. For example, children are always excited to watch cartoons and they would experience the adventure together with the characters in the show. The positive effects would be enlarged if children are able to share their TV time with their parents or peers, because they would have topics in common and more communication can be followed. In general, I'd like to conclude that whether TV is good or bad is determined by how parents manage it. If parents limit TV hours and designate some educational and interesting programs and they keep their children accompanied, healthy viewing habit would be established and positive effects would be maximized. Otherwise, watching TV can be a worrying situation.
