　　良伴(Companion)

　　清單中提到大家可以帶上自己喜歡的書。因為進入大學后照例先是要進行軍訓(military drill)，而這時學校還沒發放圖書證(library card)，新生不能去圖書館看書。可是軍訓的日子晚上會很無聊，這時你就需要一本喜歡的書來陪伴你度過這段“艱難歲月”。

　　另外清單上還有這么一句：“特別關照(special note)!!一本英語語法書(English Grammar Book)是必不可少的!因為大學英語幾乎不教語法，如果寫作文的時候忘了語法會很頭痛，有本語法書翻翻是很好的。”看來書不僅是打發時間的良伴，還可以雪中送炭(provide timely help)。(英語專業的表示對此沒有需要，學校會發下磚塊似的語法書……)

　　道具(Implement)

　　在這份清單上有兩樣比較特別的東西，在其他清單上沒怎么見過。

　　其一是家鄉特產(special local products)。好東西就要和大家共同分享，而且這還是一種“同學之間增進感情(improve friendship)”的工具。清單后面還提到了應該帶上點小禮物，讓舍友師生感情更融洽。如此種種，都可以算是建立良好關系的敲門磚(stepping stones to positive relationships)吧。

　　其二是正裝(formal dress/formal wear)。為什么新生要配正裝?怎么著也是畢業找工作時才需要的東西吧!來看看清單上對此的解釋：“開學后，如果你想參加學生會競選(student council election)的話”。原來如此，竟然連這都想到了……雖然個人并不認為競選學生會必須穿正裝，成功與否還是在于個人能力和臨場表現，最重要你得是個有口才的演講家(eloquent speaker)，不過這倒是提醒新生朋友在大學期間要積極參加各種社團(student society)，這也是為以后找工作(job hunting)做準備，可不要一心只讀圣賢書哦。

　　心態(Attitude)

　　要說這份清單上最特別的一樣，莫過于最后一條：“一顆塌實、耐得住寂寞的心”(a steady heart able to endure loneliness)。做人也好，做事也好，都應該腳踏實地不輕浮，不要急功近利(eager for quick success and instant benefit)，不要企圖靠耍小聰明過日子(live by wits)。另外，雖然之前說了大學里應該多多參加各種學校活動，但也不是讓你整天都生龍活虎坐不住，該靜下心來學習的時候還是要一門心思專注于學習(absorbed in study)。不管怎么說，學習還是首要任務，況且這可能是你最后的四年校園生涯，以后再想坐在課堂上聽課或是坐在圖書館里看書都是一件很困難的事了。
