1.it 指前面已經提到過的人或事物，有時指心目中的或成為問題的'人或事物，作真正主語。
例如：
What’s this? -It is a sheep? 這是什么??這是一只綿羊。
Who is it? -It’s me (I). 誰?是我。
It’s the wind shaking the window. 是風刮得窗戶響。
2.it指時間、季節。一般用在無人稱動詞的主語。
例如：
What time is it? -It’s nine. 幾點了?九點了。
It’s time for the meeting. Let’s go. 開會的時間到了，我們走吧。
What day is today? -It’s Saturday. 今天星期幾?今天星期六。
What’s the date today? -It is October 1st.

一.it用作形式主語可以代替下列從句：
1. that從句。基本模式為： it＋系動詞＋表語＋that從句。主要四種句型：
（1）.it＋be＋形容詞＋that從句。句型的形容詞有： necessary clear，true， strange， important，wonderfulpossible，likely， obvious， surprising等。
（2）.It＋be＋名詞（詞組）＋that從句。常用于這種句型的.名詞（詞組）有：fact， good idea， honour， shame， no wonder， good news等。
（3）.lt＋be＋過去分詞＋that從句。常用于這種句型的過去分詞有：said， reported ，hoped， believed expected等。
（4）.It + seems/happens/ appears/doesn't matter/makes no difference＋that從句。
備注：要體會that從句用陳述語氣，還是虛擬語氣。
2. what從句，what引導主語從句做形式主語。
如：It doesn’t matter what he says.
3. who從句，如：It is not clear who will attend to this matter.

二.it作不定式的形式主語
基本模式為：it + be + 表語 + 不定式，或it +謂語動詞+賓語 + 不定式。常見句型有
1).it + be + 形容詞 + 不定式。如：It is difficult to learn English.
2) it + be + 名詞 + 不定式。如：It was his job to clean the yard.
3) it + 動詞 + 賓語 + 不定式。如：It took me a lot of time to finish the task.
4) it + be + 介詞短語 + 不定式。It is against the law to steal.

三.it作動名詞的形式主語
