相似詞語的辨析范文

　　這四個片語在涵義上各不相同。

　　not all的.意思是非全體，相當于only some；not any的意思是全不，相當于none；not both作僅一個解，相當于only one；not either作兩個都個解，相當于neither．

　　請對比下列各句：

　　I do not know all of them．

　　我僅認識他們之中的幾個人（或一部分人）。

　　I do not know any of them．

　　這些人我一個都不認識。

　　I do not know both of them．

　　在這兩個人中，我只認識一個。

　　I do not know either of them．

　　這兩個人我一個也不認識。

　　上面四個句子亦可改寫為：

　　I know some of them．

　　I know none of them．

　　I know only one of them．

　　I know neither of them．

　　值得注意的是，not all指并不是所有的都，not both指并不是兩個都。在英語中，它們稱為部分否定（partial negation）。另有一些英語副詞和not 搭配使用時，也是表示類似的涵義。例：

　　not always＝sometimes

　　not everywhere = somewhere

　　not entirely＝somewhat

　　not wholly＝in some degree/to some extent
